The History of Ondokuz Mayis University Faculty of Dentistry
Faculty of Dentistry was established in 1992 on acceptance of the amendment of Law No. 41 dated 3rd July 1992, concerning the Governance of Higher Education Institutions along with the amendment of Decisions 78 and 190 of Law No. 2809.
Faculty of Dentistry started to provide education in 1993-1994 academic years with 30+2 undergraduate students by an academic staff including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professor, 14 research assistant and 19 lecturer. Patient admission started in the same year at clinics, which had 15 dental units.
Doctoral programs of periodontology, orthodontics, oral dental and maxillofacial diseases and surgery departments were established within Health Sciences Institute with the decision of 12.09.1994 of Council of Higher Education Executive Board according to the 4th amendment of governance and operation regulations. Doctoral programs were established in dental diseases and treatment department in 1998, oral diagnosis and radiology and prosthetics departments in 2000 and pediatric dentistry department in 2005.
Faculty of Dentistry circulating fund management became operational after being published on Official Gazette numbered 21975 and dated 29th June 1994 with the approval of Department of Finance dated 2nd May 1994.
