The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery encompasses a wide range of clinical and academic subjects. The diagnosis and treatment of all diseases related to the oral cavity, jaws, face, temporomandibular joint, maxillary sinus region, and surrounding anatomical structures, as well as the instruction of these procedures, fall within the scope and responsibility of our department.
In our faculty, 2nd-, 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-year undergraduate students receive both theoretical and practical training on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to these regions. Minor surgical procedures and tooth extractions performed under local anesthesia are carried out under the supervision of clinical residents and academic staff. Undergraduate students are also provided with opportunities to take patient anamnesis, learn the correct approach to patients with systemic diseases, manage consultations for cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach, observe and assist in many advanced surgical procedures, and participate in postoperative patient care.
Our department offers both doctoral and specialty training. Residents and PhD students are provided with theoretical and practical instruction related to simple and advanced surgical procedures that can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Training in scientific writing, research planning, and case presentation is also provided. By involving students in scientific research—such as clinical and laboratory studies—they are offered opportunities not only to develop as clinicians but also to gain experience as future academicians.
