The mission of this department is to become recognized at regional, national, and international levels through evidence-based theoretical and practical education, scientific research, and the meticulous healthcare services provided to the community. In the Department of Periodontology, both undergraduate and postgraduate students receive theoretical and clinical training.
Theoretical education includes: normal periodontium at macroscopic and microscopic levels; periodontal pathology of intraoral lesions; periodontal microbiology and immunology; periodontal treatments; wound healing in regenerative and plastic surgery and the materials used; dental implantology; epidemiology; and biostatistics.
Clinical education at the undergraduate level includes theoretical and clinical practice on periodontal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and alternative treatments; surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapies; implant procedures; and current developments in periodontology for patients with or without systemic conditions.
Within the scope of surgical periodontal treatment, students receive hands-on training in all periodontal surgical procedures, including plastic periodontal surgery, reconstructive periodontal surgery, implant applications, and the treatment of peri-implant diseases. Additionally, non-surgical treatments and soft/hard tissue surgeries can also be performed using laser systems.
