The primary goal of the Department of Orthodontics is to educate dental students; in other words, to provide them with the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to diagnose malocclusions and perform appropriate preventive and interceptive treatments. The department is also responsible for a four-year Specialty (Orthodontics) Program and a four-year Doctoral Program, with the latter primarily enrolling international students.
The department’s research and clinical activities continue to be published in orthodontic journals, covering topics such as treatment procedures, orthodontic materials, friction, root resorption, and white spot lesions. The department’s work has received numerous national and international awards. Notably, in 2009, the department was honored with the "Houston Research Award" at the 85th European Orthodontic Society Congress held in Helsinki, Finland.
