In the Department of Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, theoretical and clinical training is provided to 3rd, 4th, and 5th-year students, as well as postgraduate, specialty, and doctoral education. Both theoretical and clinical instruction includes topics such as anamnesis, intraoral and extraoral examination, treatment planning, intraoral and extraoral radiographic techniques and interpretation, digital imaging, radiation physics and biology, radiation protection, periodontal radiology, soft tissue calcifications, systemic diseases, dental anomalies, craniofacial anomalies, odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts, malignant and benign tumors, diseases affecting the jawbone, oral mucosal diseases, temporomandibular joint imaging and disorders, salivary gland diseases, maxillary sinus pathology, and advanced imaging techniques.
This department is where the initial examination and assessment of patients presenting to the faculty are conducted. The patient’s general health status and dental history are obtained. Intraoral and extraoral examinations are performed, and radiographs—along with cone beam computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasonography when necessary—are evaluated. Based on the clinical and radiological assessments by the physicians, patients are referred to appropriate departments for suitable treatment options.
Our department has two clinics. In the Oral Diagnosis Clinic, clinical examinations of patients are performed, while in the Radiology Clinic, radiographic evaluations are carried out. The Radiology Clinic is equipped with digital periapical (phosphor plate) systems, digital panoramic imaging devices, cone beam computed tomography, medical monitors, and various computer software. These are used for the radiographic examination of patients applying to our faculty and for academic research.
