Endodontics is a branch of dentistry concerned with the tissues surrounding the roots of teeth and the dental pulp. In Greek, "Endo" means "inside" and "donti" means "tooth." Endodontic treatment, commonly referred to as root canal therapy, involves the treatment of the soft pulp tissue within the tooth. Endodontists specialize by completing a two-year or longer advanced training program in endodontics following their general dental education.
They perform routine as well as challenging and highly complex endodontic procedures, including root canal therapy, endodontic surgery, and specialized procedures, often aimed at saving teeth after traumatic dental injuries. By focusing on specific procedures such as root canal therapy, endodontic surgery, and dental trauma management, endodontists are experts in effectively managing a wide range of complex endodontic problems. The advanced technologies and specialized techniques employed by endodontists provide precise visualization of the interior of the tooth, enabling them to deliver treatment efficiently, comfortably, and predictably.
